One place for the next event

Tropicana hosts events at its malls and showrooms, but each event relied on a separate microsite or manual form. Attendees had no single place to browse events or find their tickets, while the internal team repeated the setup work.

I explored a central mobile app, focusing on the attendee experience: discovering an event, buying tickets and accessing them later.

Learning from existing ticketing experiences

I compared Ticketmaster, Ticket2U and Klook, looking at booking flows, ticket storage and how much information each screen asked users to take in. The comparison helped me identify patterns to borrow and friction to avoid.

I wanted event discovery and checkout to feel straightforward on a phone, with tickets easy to find after purchase.

Considering both sides of the event

I used personas to consider the needs of an attendee and an event organiser. Attendees needed a quick way to register and keep track of tickets. Organisers needed a repeatable way to manage events. My detailed design focused on the attendee journey.

Planning the journey beyond checkout

I mapped the flow from browsing an event to choosing tickets, paying and retrieving a saved ticket. Home, My Tickets and Account stayed accessible through the bottom navigation. Upcoming and past events were separated so people could find what they needed.

A small change that removed a detour

I explored layouts in wireframes before moving into detailed UI. During peer feedback, booking for multiple guests exposed a problem: seat selection defaulted to one guest, and changing the count meant going back a screen.

I added guest selection to the seat-selection screen and made the seat layout respond to that choice. People could adjust the booking where they were already working. A second peer review found the revised flow clearer.

Keeping the event and ticket easy to find

I developed the high-fidelity screens around Tropicana’s branding, using consistent components and familiar mobile patterns. Event cards supported browsing, while the booking screen brought ticket quantities and pricing together.

After purchase, My Tickets gave the ticket its own place, with a QR code and event details ready to access.

What I would test next

This was a concept proposal, so the improvements still needed validation with actual attendees and Tropicana’s team. Peer feedback helped me catch a specific booking issue, but it couldn’t tell me how the app would perform across different events.

Next, I would test the booking flow with more event types and group sizes, and explore the organiser tools needed to manage events alongside the attendee experience.
